GOOD HISTORY NSW STAGES 4 & 5

Good History has been built to reflect the new History 7–10 syllabus for New South Wales with an emphasis on helping students develop historical understanding, skills in inquiry, and critical analysis. It aims to foster a deep appreciation of historical events, figures, and themes that have shaped both Australia and the broader world.

It emphasises the development of skills such as historical research, analysis of primary and secondary sources, and the ability to construct well-supported historical arguments. It seeks to engage students in exploring diverse perspectives and understanding the complexities of historical narratives.

Students are empowered to develop new capabilities, while teachers can measure progress and set tasks appropriate for each student. Historical concepts and skills are unpacked and modelled in the History How-to, providing scaffolding for students at all entry points as well as opportunities for differentiated instruction.

This ready-reference toolkit also includes a step-by-step guide to formulating good questions, undertaking research, and communicating findings from the historical inquiry process.

KEY FEATURES:

Learning ladder: A syllabus-aligned rubric that drives all questioning throughout the textbook, helping teachers and students easily track progress against historical concepts, knowledge and understanding.

 – Key individuals: Profiles of significant, female figures in addition to a focus on the roles women played within societies and movements.

End-of-chapter Historical inquiries: Scaffolded guide to formulate and answer key questions, these can be used as formative tasks or adapted into assessments, encouraging synthesis and application of learning.

First Nations Peoples’ experiences of colonisation: Presented from First Peoples’ perspectives, the rich content gives students a better understanding of how the past connects with the present and supports teachers in delivering quality content more confidently.

HOW TO section at the end of the book linked to each spread – detailed explanations and examples of historical concepts and skills.

TESTIMONIALS:

Barker College- Joelene Augustine
"I found this textbook incredibly user-friendly and enjoyable to work with. The programming process was straightforward, and the videos and worksheets were engaging and well-designed to support learning. I particularly appreciated the clear differentiation provided for each lesson in the Learning Ladders, which made it easy to cater to a range of student needs. After many years of teaching in South Africa, this textbook has been invaluable in helping me familiarise myself with the Australian Curriculum and the new Geography syllabus, giving me confidence as I plan and deliver lessons."
